What is Gel Printing, Anyway?
Gel printing is an easy, fun, low barrier method of printmaking that anyone can do at home. Essentially, you have a gel plate, which is a soft, somewhat squishy, jelly-like surface, that you spread paint or ink on, before you capture the print by laying a piece of paper on top and burnishing with your hands.
The squishy gel plate is what creates the magic here – it is flexible enough to pick up all kinds of textures and marks, and the paint or ink stays on the surface of the plate, not adhering to it, so it gets picked up by the paper or whatever you are printing on.
